บทพิสูจน์เทคโนโลยี HSPA บริการบรอดแบนด์ไร้สายที่เหนือกว่า Wi-MAX ด้วยการให้บริการจริงของเอทีแอนด์ที ผู้ให้บริการโทรศัพท์มือถือรายใหญ่ที่สุดในสหรัฐอเมริกา ที่พัฒนาบริการได้หลากหลายได้ประโยชน์ทั้งรายได้ด้านสื่อสารข้อมูลต่อเลขหมายที่เพิ่มขึ้น 53% และยอดยกเลิกการใช้บริการของลูกค้าที่ลดลงจาก 2.4% เหลือเพียง 1.8%
      
       รายงานข่าวในวงการโทรคมนาคมระบุว่า เทคโนโลยี HSPA (High Speed Packet Access) เป็นการพัฒนาทางเทคนิคที่ต่อยอดและช่วยเพิ่มขยายศักยภาพในการให้บริการของเครือข่าย UMTS/WCDMA เพื่อตอบรับความต้องการในการสื่อสารแบบบรอดแบนด์ไร้สาย เทคโนโลยี HSPA มีความโดดเด่นกว่า Wi-MAX ซึ่งเป็นเทคโนโลยีทางเลือกในทุกแง่มุม ไม่ว่าจะเป็นความพร้อมเข้าสู่ตลาด ความสะดวกในการบริหารจัดการ ประสิทธิภาพของพื้นที่ให้บริการ ประสิทธิภาพในการใช้งานย่านความถี่วิทยุ และความประหยัดในแง่ของต้นทุน
      
       HSPA ช่วยให้ผู้ประกอบการเครือข่ายสื่อสารไร้สาย สามารถบริหารจัดการต้นทุนในการให้บริการบรอดแบนด์ไร้สายได้อย่างมีประสิทธิภาพสูงสุด เทคโนโลยี HSPA ให้ความสำคัญกับกลุ่มเป้าหมายที่เป็นผู้ใช้บริการทั่วไป รวมถึงมีการผลักดันความพร้อมของเครื่องลูกข่าย เพื่อร่วมกันสร้างประสบการณ์สื่อสารแบบบรอดแบนด์ไร้สาย ซึ่งเดิมเป็นจริงได้เฉพาะในเครือข่ายแบบมีสาย นอกจากนั้นเทคโนโลยี HSPA ยังสนับสนุนการสื่อสารได้ในขณะเคลื่อนที่ และผู้ใช้งานสามารถทำการสื่อสารได้ในทุกพื้นที่
      
       เทคโนโลยี HSPA ถือเป็นทางเลือกที่ถูกต้องและเหมาะสมที่สุดสำหรับการให้บริการบรอดแบนด์ไร้สายด้วยเหตุผลเรื่องประโยชน์สูงสุดจากความประหยัดในเชิงปริมาณ (Economies of scale) ซึ่งเกิดจากปริมาณผู้ใช้งานจำนวนมากที่รองรับด้วยมาตรฐานเทคโนโลยีในสายตระกูล 3GPP (Third Generation Partnership Program) ซึ่งปัจจุบันรองรับผู้ใช้บริการทั่วโลกถึงกว่า 2 พันล้านราย

       ความเร็วในการสื่อสารที่สูงถึง 14 เมกะบิตต่อวินาทีในระยะแรก และจะพัฒนาขึ้นเป็น 42 เมกะบิตต่อวินาทีในระยะถัดไป ช่วยรองรับและทำให้เกิดการพัฒนาบริการเสริมชนิดใหม่ๆ ที่น่าสนใจ ประสิทธิภาพในเชิงเทคนิค ช่วยเพิ่มขนาดพื้นที่ให้บริการทั้งในเขตเมืองและต่างจังหวัด ซึ่งผู้ให้บริการสามารถสร้างสถานีฐานรองรับพื้นที่ให้บริการขนาด 200 กิโลเมตร โดยที่ยังรักษาความเร็วในการสื่อสารบริเวณขอบพื้นที่เครือข่ายได้ด้วยความเร็วถึง 2 เมกะบิตต่อวินาที นอกจากนี้ยังมีแผนการพัฒนาเทคโนโลยีที่ชัดเจนและดำเนินการได้ง่าย โดยไม่มีความยุ่งยาก
      
       ผลการคำนวณภาระการให้บริการสำหรับเทคโนโลยี HSDPA (High Speed Downlink Packet Access) ซึ่งเป็นพัฒนาขั้นแรกก่อนจะมาเป็น HSPA พบว่าเทคโนโลยีดังกล่าวคุ้มค่าต่อการลงทุนของผู้ให้บริการ โดยสามารถรองรับการส่งข้อมูลขนาด 30 กิกะไบต์ ร่วมกับการรับชมภาพยนตร์ความยาวกว่า 400 นาทีผ่านเครือข่าย และรองรับการใช้โทรศัพท์พูดคุยอีก 1,000 นาทีต่อเดือน โดยไม่จำกัดตัวผู้ใช้บริการหรือพื้นที่ใข้งาน
      
       ในแง่การให้บริการเชิงพาณิชย์ บริษัท AT&T หรือเดิมชื่อบริษัท Cingular Wireless ซึ่งเป็นผู้ให้บริการโทรศัพท์มือถือที่ใหญ่ที่สุดในสหรัฐอเมริกา ได้มีการเปิดให้บริการบรอดแบนด์ไร้สายด้วยเทคโนโลยี HSDPA อย่างจริงจังเป็นครั้งแรกของโลกตั้งแต่ ปี 2548 โดยถือเป็นพัฒนาขั้นต่อเนื่องจากการให้บริการสื่อสารด้วยเทคโนโลยี EDGE และมีการขยายขอบเขตของบริการอย่างรวดเร็วจนครอบคลุม 100 เมืองหลักทั่วประเทศใน ปี 2549
      
       ด้วยความเร็วในการส่งข้อมูลจากสถานีฐานไปยังอุปกรณ์รับสัญญาณ (Downlink) 1.8 เมกะบิตต่อวินาที ซึ่งนับว่าสูงกว่าความเร็วมาตรฐานในระบบ WCDMA ทำให้ AT&T สามารถเปิดให้บริการใหม่ๆ อย่างโทรทัศน์ผ่านโทรศัพท์มือถือ (Mobile TV) และอินเทอร์เน็ตบรอดแบนด์ และที่สำคัญยังเป็นการเพิ่มรายได้เฉลี่ยเลขหมายหัวรวมถึงเพิ่มความภักดีต่อลูกค้า
      
       ทั้งนี้รายได้เฉลี่ยต่อเลขหมาย (Data ARPU) เพิ่มขึ้นอีก 53% ในช่วงไตรมาสที่ 4 ของปี 2549 ขณะที่อัตราการย้ายค่ายผู้ให้บริการลดลงจาก 2.4% ในไตรมาสที่ 2 ของ ปี 2547 ไปเป็น 1.8% ในไตรมาสที่ 4 ของปี 2549
      
       รายงานข่าวระบุอีกว่าจากความสำเร็จดังกล่าว AT&T ยังมุ่งหน้าที่จะพัฒนาศักยภาพของเครือข่ายต่อไป ด้วยการพัฒนาเครือข่ายไปสู่เทคโนโลยี HSUPA (High Speed uplink Packet Access) ที่จะช่วยเพิ่มความเร็วในการส่งข้อมูลจากอุปกรณ์ไปยังสถานีฐาน (Uplink) ให้สูงมากขึ้น ซึ่งเมื่อมีการพัฒนาเครือข่ายสำเร็จ จะส่งผลทำให้ผู้ใช้บริการสามารถส่งแฟ้มข้อมูลขนาดใหญ่ผ่านอีเมลได้ พร้อมๆ กับการเปิดตลาดสื่อสารไร้สายในภาคองค์กร
      
       การเพิ่มความเร็วในการส่งข้อมูลนี้ยังช่วยสร้างธุรกิจใหม่ๆ ที่เกี่ยวข้องกับการเผยแพร่แลกเปลี่ยนข้อมูลโดยตัวผู้ใช้บริการเอง เช่น การส่งวิดีโอที่ถ่ายทำกันเองผ่านเครื่องลูกข่ายโทรศัพท์มือถือ 3G เพื่อเก็บหรือแสดงผ่านระบบเว็บพอร์ทัลของ AT&T
      
       AT&T ยังวางแผนที่จะเพิ่มความเร็วในการรับข้อมูลจาก 1.8 เมกะบิตต่อวินาที ไปเป็น 3.6 เมกะบิตต่อวินาที ซึ่งจะช่วยเพิ่มขีดความสามารถในการรองรับอุปกรณ์รับ-ส่งสัญญาณ และยังเป็นการรุกในเชิงการตลาด ปัจจุบันความเร็วเฉลี่ยที่เครือข่าย HSDPA สามารถให้บริการอยู่ในช่วง 400 – 700 กิโลบิตต่อวินาที ถือว่าสามารถตอบสนองความต้องการของผู้บริโภคได้ในระดับหนึ่ง
      
       การตัดสินใจเลือกลงทุนในเทคโนโลยี HSDPA ช่วยให้ AT&T เปิดให้บริการสื่อสารไร้สายความเร็วสูงที่มีคุณภาพดี รองรับข้อมูลที่หลากหลาย นอกจากนั้นการใช้ประโยชน์จากช่องสัญญาณความถี่ได้อย่างมีประสิทธิภาพ ก็มีผลทำให้ต้นทุนและการกำหนดอัตราต่าบริการด้านสื่อสารข้อมูลไร้สายเป็นไปอย่างเหมาะสมและสามารถแข่งขันได้ เครือข่าย 3G HSDPA ของ AT&T นับตั้งแต่วันเปิดให้บริการจึงมีประสิทธิภาพทั้งในเชิงเทคนิคและเศรษฐศาสตร์
      
       เทคโนโลยี HSPA จึงมีประโยชน์อย่างมากในการให้บริการบรอดแบนด์ไร้สาย ผู้ให้บริการเครือข่ายรวมถึงผู้ใช้บริการทั่วโลก มีสิทธิที่จะเลือกใช้เทคโนโลยีที่เหมาะสมที่สุดเพื่อให้และใช้บริการบรอดแบนด์ไร้สายโดยการเปรียบเทียบที่เป็นธรรม การตัดสินใจอาจขึ้นอยู่กับปัจจัยเชิงพาณิขย์ หรืออาจต้องเกี่ยวข้องกับการกำกับดูแลกิจการโทรคมนาคมในบางประเทศ จึงเป็นสิ่งสำคัญที่การตัดสินใจที่เกี่ยวข้องกับการกำกับดูแลกิจการโทรคมนาคมจะต้องพิจารณาถึงคุณประโยชน์ต่อผู้บริโภคเป็นสำคัญ

เทคโนโลยี 3G คืออะไร 3G หรือ Third Generation
 
3G หรือ Third Generation  เป็นเทคโนโลยีการสื่อสารในยุคที่ 3 อุปกรณ์การสื่อสารยุคที่ 3 นั้นจะเป็นอุปกรณ์ที่ผสมผสาน การนำเสนอข้อมูล และ เทคโนโลยีในปัจจุบันเข้าด้วยกัน เช่น PDA โทรศัพท์มือถือ Walkman, กล้องถ่ายรูป และ อินเทอร์เน็ต

3G เป็นเทคโนโลยีที่พัฒนาต่อเนื่องจากยุคที่ 2 และ 2.5 ซึ่งเป็นยุคที่มีการให้บริการระบบเสียง และ การส่งข้อมูลในขั้นต้น ทั้งยังมีข้อจำกัดอยู่มาก การพัฒนาของ 3G ทำให้เกิดการใช้บริการมัลติมีเดีย และ ส่งผ่านข้อมูลในระบบไร้สายด้วยอัตราความเร็วที่สูงขึ้น

ลักษณะการทำงานของ 3G เมื่อเปรียบเทียบเทคโนโลยี 2G กับ 3G แล้ว 3G มีช่องสัญญาณความถี่ และ ความจุในการรับส่งข้อมูลที่มากกว่า ทำให้ประสิทธิภาพในการรับส่งข้อมูลแอพพลิเคชั่น รวมทั้งบริการระบบเสียงดีขึ้น พร้อมทั้งสามารถใช้ บริการมัลติมีเดียได้เต็มที่ และ สมบูรณ์แบบขึ้น

เช่น บริการส่งแฟกซ์, โทรศัพท์ต่างประเทศ ,รับ-ส่งข้อความที่มีขนาดใหญ่ ,ประชุมทางไกลผ่านหน้าจออุปกรณ์สื่อสาร, ดาวน์โหลดเพลง, ชมภาพยนตร์แบบสั้นๆ เทคโนโลยี

3G น่าสนใจอย่างไร

 จากการที่ 3G สามารถรับส่งข้อมูลในความเร็วสูง ทำให้การติดต่อสื่อสารเป็นไปได้ อย่างรวดเร็ว และ มีรูปแบบใหม่ๆ มากขึ้น ประกอบกับอุปกรณ์สื่อสารไร้สายในระบบ 3G สามารถให้บริการระบบเสียง และ แอพพลิเคชั่นรูปแบบใหม่

เช่น จอแสดงภาพสี, เครื่องเล่น mp3, เครื่องเล่นวีดีโอ การดาวน์โหลดเกม, แสดงกราฟฟิก และ การแสดงแผนที่ตั้งต่างๆ ทำให้การสื่อสารเป็นแบบอินเตอร์แอคทีฟ ที่สร้างความสนุกสนาน และ สมจริงมากขึ้น

3G ช่วยให้ชีวิตประจำวันสะดวกสบายและคล่องตัวขึ้น โดย โทรศัพท์เคลื่อนที่เปรียบเสมือน คอมพิวเตอร์แบบพกพา, วิทยุส่วนตัว และแม้แต่กล้องถ่ายรูป ผู้ใช้สามารถเช็คข้อมูลใน account ส่วนตัว เพื่อใช้บริการต่างๆ ผ่านโทรศัพท์เคลื่อนที่ เช่น self-care (ตรวจสอบค่าใช้บริการ), แก้ไขข้อมูลส่วนตัว และ ใช้บริการข้อมูลต่างๆ เช่น ข่าวเกาะติดสถานการณ์, ข่าวบันเทิง, ข้อมูลด้านการเงิน, ข้อมูลการท่องเที่ยว และ ตารางนัดหมายส่วนตัว “Always On”

คุณสมบัติหลักของ 3G คือ 

มีการเชื่อมต่อกับระบบเครือข่ายของ 3G ตลอดเวลาที่เราเปิดเครื่องโทรศัพท์ (always on) นั่นคือไม่จำเป็นต้องต่อโทรศัพท์เข้าเครือข่าย และ log-in ทุกครั้งเพื่อใช้บริการรับส่งข้อมูล

ซึ่งการเสียค่าบริการแบบนี้ จะเกิดขึ้นเมื่อมีการเรียกใช้ข้อมูลผ่านเครือข่ายเท่านั้น โดยจะต่างจากระบบทั่วไป ที่จะเสียค่าบริการตั้งแต่เราล็อกอินเข้าในระบบเครือข่าย อุปกรณ์สื่อสารไร้สายระบบ 3G สำหรับ 3G อุปกรณ์สื่อสารไม่ได้จำกัดอยู่เพียงแค่โทรศัพท์เท่านั้น แต่ยังปรากฏในรูปแบบของอุปกรณ์ สื่อสารอื่น เช่น Palmtop, Personal Digital Assistant (PDA), Laptop และ PC
